  11. If you have the Floppy Disk version of Expert ScreenSaver please 
  12. read the section that deals with the Floppy Disk version. At the 
  13. end of this file, there is an important section about Product Sup-
  14. port and the SysInfo Program.

  20. Note: when you install Expert ScreenSaver, the program will be 
  21. placed in the program group named "Expert Software".

  26. BEFORE YOU INSTALL:  MAKE SURE THAT WINDOWS IS CONFIGURED TO
  27. DISPLAY 256 COLORS.  SEE YOUR WINDOWS GUIDE FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON
  28. HOW TO CHANGE YOUR VIDEO DRIVER SETTINGS.

  30. 1. Installation: 
  31.     
  32.     1. Insert Expert ScreenSaver CD into your CD-ROM drive D: 
  33.        (or E:).
  34.     2. From the Windows Program Manager, choose Run from the 
  35.            File Menu.
  36.     3. Type D:\SETUP (or E:\SETUP) depending on the letter of 
  37.        your CD-ROM drive, then click on the OK button.
  38.     4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

  41. 2. Starting ScreenSaver automatically when you start Windows:
  42.  
  43. If you choose the Full Install, you can place the Expert ScreenSaver 
  44. program icon in the StartUp Program Group.  (This is not recommended 
  45. for the Partial Install, because the CD must be in the CD-ROM Drive 
  46. to run correctly.)
  47.  
  48. We recommend you also do the following:
  49.     
  50.     1. Highlight the Expert ScreenSaver program icon.
  51.     2. While holding down the ALT key, press the ENTER KEY.
  52.     3. You will see the Program Item Properties dialog box 
  53.            appear.
  54.     4. Check the box labeled "Run Minimized", then click on OK.
  55.  
  56. This way, Expert ScreenSaver will automatically run without you 
  57. having to wait for it to load and then minimize every time you 
  58. start Windows.

  61. 2.a. Exiting Expert ScreenSaver:
  62.  
  63. If you have made any changes to your ScreenSaver settings, we 
  64. recommend that you exit the program by clicking on the QUIT
  65. button. This way, all the changes you have made will be saved 
  66. and will be in effect next time you run the program.  Exiting
  67. Windows while the ScreenSaver program is still running will
  68. cause you to lose any settings changes you have made.

  71. 3. If you are using Norton Desktop 2.x or other Windows
  72. alternative desktops or you are having trouble installing the
  73. program:
  74.  
  75. Check to see if your System.ini file reads as follows: 
  76.      [boot]
  77.      shell=progman.exe
  78.  
  79. Expert ScreenSaver will not install properly if 'shell' is set
  80. to anything different such as "Norton". All the files will be
  81. installed on the directory you have specified, however, no 
  82. program group or icon will be created. If this is the case, 
  83. create your own program group and drag the file EXPTSAVR.EXE
  84. into the new program group from the File Manager.  Please
  85. consult your Windows or Desktop guide for more information on
  86. how to set up applications to run from program groups.

  169. 4.a.  To uninstall:
  170.  
  171. Remove the following files from your Windows directory:
  172.  
  173. - Expert.scr
  174. - all  .ESS (Expert ScreenSaver Picture Collection) files.
  175. - all  .ETN (Album Thumbnail image) files.
  176. - all  .ETI (Main Screen Thumbnail image) files.
  177. - Exptscene.bmp
  178. - Expertss.ini 
  179.  
  180. 4.b.  To re-install:
  181.  
  182. We recommend that you remove all of the above files from your
  183. Windows directory when you re-install.  Any .ESS or .ETN file that
  184. remain in your Windows directory will contain information about
  185. the picture files contained in that directory.  If you have
  186. deleted these picture files, you will get a "Cannot find Bitmap"
  187. error.

  191.         *  *  Fractal Compression Files  *   *
  192.       (only used in Sharks ScreenSaver)

  194. 5. The photographs in Expert ScreenSaver are compressed using
  195. fractal transform technology.  This requires that all ScreenSaver
  196. pictures (.ESP files) be accompanied on the same directory by an
  197. appropriate template file (.FTT file). If you move your pictures,
  198. remember to move both files to the new destination, otherwise the
  199. program will not be able to decompress the images.

  203.     *  *  Windows Control Panel Module *  *
  204.  
  205. 6. Although you can change most of the settings for Expert
  206. ScreenSaver from the program, you can also make changes to
  207. settings from the Windows Control Panel/Desktop application. The
  208. name of the ScreenSaver module is named "Expert ScreenSaver v2" 
  209. and should be the active selection in the Control Panel/Desktop
  210. Screen Saver section when the program has been loaded.

  212. When active, Expert ScreenSaver controls the screen saver and
  213. wallpaper functions. But when you exit, the program returns your 
  214. Windows application to the exact settings that existed before you
  215. started the program.  All screen savers or wallpapers that were 
  216. active before starting Expert ScreenSaver will then be displayed, 
  217. even though you might have disabled them while Expert ScreenSaver
  218. was running.

  223.    *  * Using Expert ScreenSaver with other Screen Savers *  *

  225. 7. For best results when using Expert ScreenSaver with other 
  226. Screen Savers:
  227.  
  228. From the Windows/Control Panel/Desktop application:
  229. - Make sure that the selected screen saver is Expert ScreenSaver.
  230. - Set the Wallpaper option to <none>.  Expert ScreenSaver will
  231.   work best when it doesn't have to compete with other wallpaper
  232.   settings from the Window's control panel.
  233. - If you have placed the Expert ScreenSaver program icon in the 
  234.   start-up Program Group, make sure that this is the only screen
  235.   saver that will be loaded automatically when you start Windows.

  238.     *  * Using Expert ScreenSaver with Other Software *  *
  239.  
  240. 8.  When using certain software, most notably older versions of
  241. paint and draw programs, (PageMaker 4.0, Corel Draw 3.0, etc.) you
  242. may experience a change in the colors of the image you are working
  243. on when the Wallpaper changes.  This occurs when the Windows 256
  244. color palette changes with the new Wallpaper image and the
  245. software you are using does not recognize the color change.  To
  246. avoid this, simply turn off the Wallpaper changing function.  
  247. Minimize, then maximize the program you were working on and the
  248. image will then return to its original colors.  If this doesn't
  249. solve the problem, turn off and Quit Expert ScreenSaver while you
  250. work with your application. YOUR FILE WILL NOT BE AFFECTED, ONLY
  251. THE WAY IT IS DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN AT THE TIME.

  259. The Setup program can also install a System Information Program to 
  260. your hard drive. This program will provide you with useful information 
  261. like your computer's memory, disk space, etc.  This would prove
  262. very helpful if you should need technical assistance.
